“Aku Berani Lawan Penculik” (I Dare to Stand Up to Kidnappers) is my final thesis project, developed as a children’s illustrated book focused on educating and empowering children through storytelling. The project began with in-depth research, including direct observation, interviews with children and their parents, and secondary data analysis sourced from the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI – Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia). This research provided critical insights into child safety issues, behavioral patterns, and effective communication approaches for young audiences.
Based on these findings, I developed mood boards and defined color palettes that aligned with the book’s themes and emotional tone. I created original illustrations for each page of the 26-page children’s book, bringing the characters and scenes to life with careful attention to narrative flow, clarity, and age-appropriate visual storytelling.
The project was further expanded beyond the book into a complete visual system. I developed merchandise concepts inspired by the illustrations, ensuring consistency with the book’s visual identity and relevance to market trends. I also designed advertising and promotional materials using the illustrations to build awareness, generate excitement, and support potential sales. To ensure production quality, I coordinated directly with printers and manufacturers to maintain consistency across both the book and merchandise outputs.
